The Practices of Yoga and Ayurveda begin with You. They demand that you meet yourself as you are, not as you have been or want to be, but as you are in This present moment. This is our starting place, and its from here that we choose our next step and can move forward with full integrity and purpose.
Ayurveda roughly translates to mean the understanding, or knowledge, of Life.
This understanding can come from books, from teachers, from the wealth of information that is available to us externally on the subject,
but it can also come from ourselves; from internal experience.
As human beings we are self reflective, which means we have the potential to evaluate every single action and learn from it.
We are the scientist, if you like; our body our laboratory; our every action an experiment.
Once we tune in to this it becomes very simple - if the action has a good effect: repeat it, build on it, grow.
If the action has an undesirable effect don't repeat it; let it go!
We know this, all of us, but the daily practice is where it where it gets powerful.
It is so easy to lose consciousness, to zone out, tune out, numb out; to let habits creep in unchecked and find that we have stopped steering our own ship.
What happens in a Daily Self Practice is a consistent, honest, private commitment to your own continued consciousness. The choice to tune in rather than to tune out,
to deeply root into yourself and know what you are about, and to forge habit and intention that supports your own growth.
The practices of Yoga and Ayurveda travel hand in hand, and when shaping a Self Practice we draw from it all.
What I seek to share goes beyond the mat (though Asana is a full and important part of any Self Practice and person-dependent often plays a major role).
These are practices of Self-enquiry, of Movement and of Stillness, of getting into the Body and the Breath and the Blood, of learning to Charge ourselves, and how to harvest that Charge into the fullness of our Being so that we wake up, quite literally, into our Potential. We move, we breathe, we journal, we listen in, we shake out, we shape our habits, our intentions, we align our cells and choose our direction, we carve out time for Ritual and for full, deep Restoration.
This is the work through which we learn ourselves, and hold ourselves, and guide ourselves.
Welcome to the practice of You - it is Yours.
